Please Don't Sleep On Empty Stomach

Whether to sleep empty stomach or munch on something before sleeping, it is suggested that if you stuff yourself just before sleeping, it can actually cause you to gain weight. The reason behind it is that you burn fewer calories while sleeping and most of the food that you eat gets converted into fat while you sleep.

On the other hand, if you take your dinner too early and then by the time you go to sleep, all your food is digested and you start feeling hungry again. First of all it’s difficult to fall asleep when you are hungry since your mind stays alert as your body craves for the food. And if at all somehow you manage to sleep, which is kind of not advisable, then the quality of sleep that you have will suffer. This will eventually lead to low productivity, increased stress levels and a weaker immune system.

The best way to deal with this dilemma is that if you feel hungry when you are about to sleep, take light snacks that must be suitably balanced. Don’t overeat and stuff yourself and neither go to bed empty stomach. Although eating well and sleeping immediately helps you to fall asleep fast, which can be beneficial for certain people who are suffering from chronic insomnia. In fact in certain cases it has been found that stuffing yourself and sleeping immediately doesn’t causes weight gain, but those number of cases are quite limited.

The best snack to eat when you go to bed should be something leaner and easier to digest such as cottage cheese, eggs or a toast. A warm glass of skimmed milk will also serve the purpose. One more important thing to keep in mind is take dinner one or two hours before it’s time to sleep so that you are neither hungry nor you are feeling stuffed. This way you kind of balance your “eat and sleep” mechanism and get a good night sleep.

So the next time when you’re hungry before you go to sleep, just don’t starve yourself whole night and wake up with puffy eyes and lethargic feeling. Take something good and light so that when you wake up, you feel energetic and rejuvenated. Moreover by having a good night sleep you feel less stressed throughout the day and keep lots of illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension and even cancer at bay.
