These may end our world

1. Asteroid Impact

Certainly a common theory, asteroid impacts have affected humankind in the past- they’re even highly believed to have wiped out the Dinosaurs, but just how likely are they to wipe us all out? Well, in the 15th Century an asteroid impact is recorded to have claimed some 10,000 lives in the Chinese city of Chi’’ing-yang and more recently in 1908 a 200-foot wide fragment entered the atmosphere above Tunguska, Siberia causing an explosion around 1,000 times more powerful than the one that floored Hiroshima in 1945. So, fairly likely then.

2. Disease Epidemic

Epidemics have been picking humans off since the dawn of our time on this planet. Though I like to think of organisms and germs as our friends, helping to maintain the balance and all that, sometimes the odds can just tip out of our favour. In the middle ages, the Plague (or ‘Black Death’) wiped out around one quarter of Europe’s population, flu claimed around 20million of us in 1918/19 and AIDS is still killing. Just because we’ve got iPhones doesn’t mean we can’t contract disease both grim and highly contagious.

3. Flood-Basalt Volcanism

Now I may not be a science buff, but this concept is extremely interesting. Basically, it is just a volcanic eruption of such scale that it causes adverse effects on the environment not just nearby, but for hundreds or even thousands of miles in every direction. In the 1700’s a particularly powerful explosion in Iceland caused the direct death of some 9,000 people- as well as most of the nation’s livestock, leading to further death (and lots of it) as a result of starvation. The ash cloud caused by the eruption also caused a 9 degree plunge in the temperature in the US. How many volcanoes are there on Earth?

4. Global Warming

The Earth is definitely getting hotter though, that is a fact- and supporters of this explanation believe humankind may have something to do with it. By way of industrial pollution and the like, which emit ‘greenhouse gasses’ into the atmosphere –it is believed a hole will eventually form in the planet’s atmosphere leading to a deadly rise in our climate.

5. Collapse of Ecosystem

Think of the Earth as a huge tapestry in which each living organism is a specific piece of a unique pattern which constitutes a larger, more beautiful image. Now imagine taking a pair of scissors and hacking bits of said tapestry out in the name of human convenience. This theory promotes the belief that there is a delicate balance which must be maintained in order for the Earth to carry on as it began. Human interference with this balance (destroying the rainforests, forcing certain species into extinction) is messing all of this up and will eventually lead to the end of days.

6. Global War

We humans have always been partial to a bit of war, that’s no secret. However many feel we have now reached a point in our existence where we are simply just too good at killing each other. These people, moral humans I believe they’re called, feel that if another large scale World War were to kick off, it’d be the end of society as we know it, if not humanity as a whole. If we take into account how the last war of this kind ended, then consider that the US and Russia together possess in excess of 20,000 bombs of this kind, you can kind of see their point.

7. Robot Revolution

Robots are getting gradually smarter; some theorize that the next logical step for development in this field is to create machines with humanlike intelligence and even eventually consciousness. This could apparently go any of two ways, either we co-exist with the robots learning from each other etc etc OR (if they turn out to be anything like those who created them) they’ll overthrow us and take the planet for themselves. Trippy thought.

8. Alien Invasion

Perhaps the most exciting possibility on my list, humans have been romanticising with such ideas for god knows how long. Interpreted by a never ending list of novelists, playwrights, comic artists and filmmakers over the years, an alien invasion may be just what the world needs to fulfil John Lennon’s vision of all just getting along.

9. Ice Age

Whereas a solar flare (which regrettably, did not make it onto this list) would cause us all to perish in the fire, the opposite would be for the sun to recede from us- plunging the Earth in yet another Ice Age. Scientists believe the Earth has gone through a number of eras like this over the years, the most recent we emerged from around 10,000 years ago. I can hardly bare a few either side of freezing, never mind the kind of temperatures that could fossilise me in an instant.

10. Mass Insanity

It is currently estimated by the World Health Organisation that some 500 million people in the world suffer from some kind of psychological disorder. Despite this being the age of uttermost comfort and ease for the majority of humankind, depression is at its highest level ever- people seem to be out of tune with their real cause in life, and its making them very unhappy. Some say that by 2020 depression will be the second most common cause of death for our kind, with modern problems having an immense effect on our primitive wiring.

Contact Lens Care

Contact lens wearers have an increased risk for eye infections and injury to the cornea. Small particles can become trapped under a lens and scratch the cornea.

Follow these lens care guidelines to protect the health of your eyes.
  1. Wear your contact lenses as prescribed. Your eye doctor will recommend a wearing schedule based on the type of contact lens you have. Do not wear your lenses longer than the time recommended.
  2. Always wash your hands with soap and water and rinse thoroughly before handling your contact lenses. Avoid applying lotions or creams to your hands before inserting or removing lenses, which can cause pain or irritation when they are in your eyes.
  3. Insert your contact lenses before applying makeup to avoid contamination and avoid applying makeup to the inner rim of the eyelid.
  4. Clean your contact lens by rubbing it gently with your index finger in the palm of your hand with a lens solution.
  5. Clean and store your contact lenses as prescribed -- in a clean case in fresh solution. Never use plain tap water to rinse or store your lenses.
  6. Rinse your case after each use with sterile solution and let air-dry to avoid contamination.
  7. Do not let the solution bottle opening come in contact with your fingers or lenses, which can cause the solution to become contaminated.
  8. If you experience signs of eye infection (redness, burning, excessive tearing), remove your contact lenses and discontinue use. See your eye doctor before resuming contact lens use.
  9. Never wear another person's contact lenses.
  10. Visit your eye doctor annually to check the condition of your lenses and the health of your eyes.

Atlantis: Dubai's underwater hotel

A boutique hotel it ain't The 1,539-room, $1.8 billion megaplex is situated on the The Palm, an artficial sand island shaped like a palm tree.

Poseidon suite
The hotel's Lost Chambers suites provide views from both the bedroom and the bathroom windows into a lagoon filled with 65,000 marine animals. So you can relax on your bed and watch giant manta rays float slowly by.

Poseidon suite bathroom
...or admire sharks while relaxing in the bath.

Grand lobby
Plato's legend has Atlantis being submerged as a divine punishment for greed and decadence. We think it might have been for truly appalling taste...

The 'Lost' Chambers
Apparently the Lost Chambers at Atlantis give 'underwater insights into how the citizens of Atlantis may have lived and worked'. If they had actually existed, that is.

Ossiano restaurant
At Ossiano restaurant, you can look up from the fish on your plate to see its bereaved relatives staring mournfully through the windows at you.

The Leap of Faith waterslide
Atlantis' waterpark is known as Aquaventure, and features high-tech waterslides built to look like ancient monuments. The highest of them, the Leap of Faith, is over 27 metres high.

Shark-infested lagoon (er, tank)
After being catapaulted down the Leap of Faith, Aquaventurers bob in inner tubes through a 'shark-infested lagoon'. Fortunately the sharks are safely on the other side of a pane of glass.

Dolphin Bay
The resort's Dolphin Bay allows 'shallow-water interaction' with some ever-obliging cetaeceans, flown in from the Solomon Islands for the purpose.

Ambassador Lagoon
The hotel's Ambassador Lagoon is filled with 65,000 marine animals, looked after by nearly 200 marine experts.

The habits that can ruin your health

BURNING SCENTED CANDLES

Scented candles can emit toxins like soot, benzene and lead. Burning them, especially in an enclosed area, can increase your risk of cancer, and neurological and behavioural problems, and aggravate allergies and asthma.

The fragrance may also contain acetone, benzyl acetate, benzyl alcohol, linalool, and methylene chloride – when inhaled, these chemicals can cause nausea, central nervous system disorders, irritation to the mouth, throat, eyes, skin and lungs, headaches, and respiratory failure. Also, burning incense sticks can have similar effects.

Do this: Organic soya-based candles scented with essential oils burn at a lower temperature and do not contain toxic paraffin wax like standard scented candles. Reed diffusers and electric essential oil burners are also safer.

KEEPING YOUR FACE TOWEL IN THE TOILET

Every time you flush the loo, germs rise into the air and land on towels, toothbrushes, etc. So when you wipe your face on your towel, they could be transferred onto your skin.

Do this: Putting down the toilet lid when you flush, and sterilising your toilet bowl and cleaning the bathroom regularly. Store face towels in a drawer and cover items in your bathroom – don’t leave jars of moisturiser open or cotton wads exposed.

SLEEPING ON TOO FIRM A MATTRESS

A very firm mattress can cause or worsen back pain. Your spine has a natural curve. It is not supposed to be perfectly straight. A mattress that’s too firm doesn’t allow this and puts pressure on the heaviest parts of your body, like the upper back and the pelvis.

Do this: When you lie on your back, you should be able to slide your hand under your lower back fairly easily without a gap. If the mattress is too firm, there will be a gap between your hand, your back and the mattress.

WEARING HIGH HEELS

Besides increasing your risk of hip, back and tendon problems, wearing high heels even for an hour can cause foot soreness, pain, calluses, bunions, ingrown toenails, a sprained ankle, blisters, and bleeding from the constant rubbing.

Do this: Choose a heel with a greater surface area (avoid stilettos), and stretch your calf muscles and Achilles tendon by pulling your toes towards your shin, or standing flat and leaning forward.

DRINKING FROM A CHIPPED MUG

That chipped, cracked ceramic mug you love? It could harbour bacteria that causes diarrhoea and vomiting. Cracks in the glaze can also expose the bare ceramic, and if the ceramic contains lead and other chemicals, the toxins could leach into your drink. Even a crack in a plastic mug can emit trace amounts of toxins from the plastic.

Do this: Throw out damaged mugs.

DRINKING TOO MUCH WATER

Drinking too much water can cause water intoxication (hyponatremia). This condition is one where excess water upsets the delicate water-sodium balance in your blood.
So, one to two litres a day is usually enough, although this depends on your weight, activity level and kidney health, and the climate. There’s water in soup, fruits and veggies, too, so don’t discount those. Nausea, confusion, headache, lethargy and restlessness are common signs of hyponatremia. Severe symptoms include seizures and decreased consciousness, which may result in coma or even death.

Do this: Don’t overdo fluid intake while exercising. Consider electrolyte sports drinks rather than plain water, to replenish sodium lost through perspiration.

Your Mouth, Your Health

Your oral health can be an indicator of vitamin or mineral deficiency. When your body's not getting proper nutrition, symptoms often manifest on the tongue, gums and teeth. Very often, when something flares up, loosens or simply looks different within your mouth, it's your body's way of asking for some type of nutrient it doesn't have enough of. Learn about the different oral health flare-ups with the vitamin and mineral commonly attributed to them. Adjust your diet, and most of the time, they will go away on their own.

Inflamed gum tissue

Deficient: Magnesium
Inadequate intake of magnesium in your diet can lead to gum inflammation. If you have been taking care of your gums by proper brushing and flossing, the gingivitis may be caused by magnesium deficiency in your diet. Up your magnesium intake with cashew nuts, sunflower seeds, spinach, artichokes, broccoli and green beans.

Loose teeth, premature tooth loss, bleeding gums

Deficient: Calcium
Calcium is required for building strong bones as well as healthy teeth. To increase your calcium intake, consume more calcium-rich foods such as milk, yogurt, cheese, sardines and tofu.

Sore tongue that may have fissures, cracks and sores at mouth edges

Deficient: Vitamin B
Since deficiency in vitamins B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B6 and B12 produce the similar symptoms of cracked and sore tongue and at the mouth edges, it is difficult to figure out if you are deficient in just one or more than one of these vitamins. Hence, it will be helpful to take multi-vitamin B supplements. Also, do include vitamin B-rich sources such as chicken meat, eggs, shellfish and milk in your diet.

Bleeding gums, yeast infections, lowered immune response, impaired taste

Deficient: Vitamin C or A
Deficiency in vitamin C can cause the gums to bleed and the body's immune system to weaken, leading to infections such as yeast infection of the mouth and common cold. Eat more spinach, broccoli, red peppers, papaya, mango, kiwi, kale and other green leafy vegetables.

Loss of taste, dry mouth, loss of sensation in tongue, gum disease

Deficient: Zinc
These are side-effects commonly associated with prolonged years of heavy smoking. However, if you are a non-smoker and you experience these symptoms, you may have a dietary deficiency of the mineral zinc. Eat more spinach, green peas, lean beef, Swiss cheese.

World's most expensive Kopi Luwak Coffee now on sale at Harrods

Will you try this? ......

Though the animal welfare groups are strongly criticizing the creation of the Kopi Luwak, a coffee branded as among the rarest, luxurious and most expensive delicacy in the world, stating that Asian palm civets are being force-fed a debilitating diet of coffee berries which are naturally fermented through civet cat’s digestive system, but the popularity of the coffee among the connoisseurs are surging like anything. And, this is the reason that the world’s most expensive coffee Terra Nera ‘Kopi Luwak’, which is giving a new meaning to rich coffee and has spread from Indonesia to the US and Europe, will be now made exclusively available to pre-order at Harrods, at a price range starting from $225 to $10,910.

Exclusively sourced from Quechua in the south-east of the Peruvian Andes; the coffee cherries are passed through the civet cat's digestive system, and are then hand-collected to be processed immediately. During the digestion process, most of the caffeine is removed by the enzymes and the resulting thing is a more fragrant, utterly delightful, mellow coffee bean, which comes out with the dung.

Terra Nera is only available by pre-order, so that each request can be freshly prepared. The coffee, developed in six grades by Terra Nera, will be provided in a Kraft paper pouch which comes with an internally built freshness valve.

The buyers of grade 0 coffee will get a 24-carat gold-plated sack which will be hand-crafted and individually engraved with the customer’s name by renowned silversmith Rebecca H.Joselyn.

Speaking about the coffee created from the protein-broken coffee beans excreted by animals, we have earlier seen the Elephant Dung Coffee which Thailand's Anantara hotels brews for $50 a cup.

Once apon a time ............

This is a "Beautiful (true) story" .... makes you understand that things happen for a reason.

A brand new pastor and his wife, newly assigned to their first ministry, to reopen a church in suburban Brooklyn , arrived in early October excited about their opportunities. When they saw their church, it was very run down and needed much work. They set a goal to have everything done in time to have their first service
on Christmas Eve.

They worked hard, repairing pews, plastering walls, painting, etc, and on December 18 were ahead of schedule and just about finished.

On December 19 a terrible tempest - a driving rainstorm hit the area and lasted for two days.

On the 21st, the pastor went over to the church. His heart sank when he saw that the roof had leaked, causing a large area of plaster about 20 feet by 8 feet to fall off the front wall of the sanctuary just behind the pulpit, beginning about head high.

The pastor cleaned up the mess on the floor, and not knowing what else to do but postpone the Christmas Eve service, headed home.

On the way he noticed that a local business was having a flea market type sale for charity so he stopped in. One of the items was a beautiful, handmade, ivory colored, crocheted tablecloth with exquisite work, fine colors and a Cross embroidered right in the center. It was just the right size to cover up the hole in the front wall. He bought it and headed back to the church.

By this time it had started to snow. An older woman running from the opposite direction was trying to catch the bus.. She missed it. The pastor invited her to wait in the warm church for the next bus 45 minutes later.

She sat in a pew and paid no attention to the pastor
while he got a ladder, hangers, etc., to put up the tablecloth as a wall tapestry. The pastor could hardly believe how beautiful it looked and it covered up the entire problem area.

Then he noticed the woman walking down the center aisle. Her face was like a sheet.. "Pastor," she asked, "where did you get that tablecloth?" The pastor explained. The woman asked him to check
the lower right corner to see if the initials, EBG were crocheted into it there. They were. These were the initials of the woman, and she had made this tablecloth 35 years before, in Austria

The woman could hardly believe it as the pastor told how he had just gotten the Tablecloth. The woman explained that before the war she and her husband were well-to-do people in Austria.

When the Nazis came, she was forced to leave. Her husband was going to follow her the next week.He was captured, sent to prison and never saw her husband or her home again.

The pastor wanted to give her the tablecloth; but she made the pastor keep it for the church. The pastor insisted on driving her home, that was the least he could do.. She lived on the other side of Staten Island and was only in Brooklyn for the day for a housecleaning job.

What a wonderful service they had on Christmas Eve. The church was almost full. The music and the
spirit were great. At the end of the service, the pastor and his wife greeted everyone at the door and many said that they would return.

One older man, whom the pastor recognized from the neighborhood continued to sit in one of the pews and stare, and the pastor wondered why he wasn't leaving.

The man asked him where he got the tablecloth on the front wall because it was identical to one that his wife had made years ago when they lived in Austria before the war and how could there be two tablecloths so much alike.

He told the pastor how the Nazis came, how he forced his wife to flee for her safety and he was supposed to follow her, but he was arrested and put in a prison.. He never saw his wife or his home
again all the 35 years in between.

The pastor asked him if he would allow him to take him for a little ride. They drove to Staten Island and to the same house where the pastor had taken the woman three days earlier.

He helped the man climb the three flights of stairs to the woman's apartment, knocked on the door and he saw the greatest Christmas reunion he could ever imagine.

"This is a True Story - submitted by Pastor Rob Reid"

God does work in mysterious ways.. I'm asking the Lord to bless you all as I'm praying for you all today, to guide you all and protect you all as you go along your way.
His love is always with you, His promises are true, and when we give Him all our
cares you know He will see us through.

So when the road you're traveling on seems difficult at best.. Just remember I'm here
praying and God will do the rest.

Pray for yourself and pray for all, God will listening to us.
When there is nothing left but God, that is when you find out that God is all you need.

simply follow this small prayer :

"Father,
God, bless all my friends and family
in what ever it is that You know they may be needing this day!
May their life be full of your peace,
prosperity and power as he/she seeks to have a
closer relationship with you.
Amen."
